FIFA 09 Review

EA Canada was smart, as it used the one-per-four-year UEFA Championship to test market the features and gameplay that would ultimately go gold for the boxed copy of FIFA 09. The development team also listened to fan feedback via e-mails and forums, then tweaked from there; that’s something that EA Sports titles didn’t seem to do too often just a few years back. The result? A game for the soccer die-hards and for the general gamer looking for that breath of fresh air within the sports genre. There’s room for improvement, of course, but it’s easy recommending FIFA 09 to pretty much anyone—even those that normally summon only John Madden when they’re ready for some “football.”

Great features…and sinful gameplay to back it all up.

“Weighty” players help to make FIFA 09 realistic in the looks department. Facial maps look a tad distant.

Strong overall, but better commentary synch with the on-pitch action would have been nice.

Myriad gameplay features. Updated player tendencies are golden for those who choose to pay for them.

In the running for the best sports game of the modern era.

Overall Score NOT an average
