NFL Picks: Week 3 Results / Week 4 Picks

Welcome back to Xboxlivenetwork.com: NFL Picks! Well, week 3 sure gave us some great moments. Brett Favre shows us why he came back. The Detroit Lions won their first game since Jerhawk was still in High School. The Seahawks showed off their new alternate uniforms, and Terrell Owens showed us why he's still just...T.O.

Here were the standout picks from Week 3:
  • EVERYBODY chose the Baltimore Ravens over the Browns, the N.Y. Giants over Tampa Bay, AND the Chicago Bears over the Seahawks, and got ALL 3 CORRECT.
  • JRC865 was the ONLY person to get the Cincinnati Bengals over the Pittsburgh Steelers CORRECT.
  • Finch865 was the ONLY one to pick the Jacksonville Jaguars CORRECT over the Houston Texans.
  • KnightnBattle10, xxInspirationxx and IronHorse1995 went with the Detroit Lions and got that CORRECT. BlazenHawks bailed out on the Lions at the last minute.
  • IronHorse1995 was the ONLY player to get the Buffalo Bills WRONG as they went down to the Saints.

The results from Week 3 alone:

T1.) Stopable / 11
T1.) KnightnBattle10 / 11
T1.) xxInspirationxx / 11
T4.) BlazenHawks / 10
T4.) JRC865 / 10
T4.) JohnnyX77 / 10
T4.) IronHorse1995 / 10
8.) Jerhawk / 9
T9.) Deus Legend / 7

Now for the Week 4 Matchups:

Detroit @ Chicago

Cincinnati @ Cleveland

Oakland @ Houston

Seattle @ Indianapolis

Tennessee @ Jacksonville

N.Y. Giants @ Kansas City

Baltimore @ New England

Tampa Bay @ Washington

Buffalo @ Miami

N.Y. Jets @ New Orleans

Dallas @ Denver

St. Louis @ San Francisco

San Diego @ Pittsburgh (Sunday Night Football)

Green Bay @ Minnesota (Monday Night Favre-Fest '09)

Please have your picks in by 1:00 E.T. Sunday Morning. There was also a suggestion given by Finch865 with our NFL Picks dealing with point spreads. Finch, I appreciate your input, but for the time being we're just going to have us pick the winners of the games. Starting in Week 10 as we did last year, I'll give the point spreads for the four or five upset games, but on here I'll just stick to us picking the winners. But I do appreciate your suggestion. If anyone has any suggestions that you feel will improve our NFL Picks, we would love to hear your ideas!
Here is another NFL Player comparison, this time suggested by my father, Brian. Led Zeppelin's guitarist Jimmy Page (left) and Lions Quarterback Mathew Stafford (right). Take a hard look at this one. They may not look alike at first, but look at the eyes and the smile. This is a good one. There are many more player comparisons that I've got left, but if you have more, we'd love to hear them.

No COD: MW2 Demo

Developer Infinity Ward currently has "no plans" on releasing any type of demo for players to try before they buy, saying the team will use the extra time spent adding final touches to the retail game.

"The entire team is focused on polish all the way up to ship of the full game," the studio announced on its Twitter.

Infinity Ward made it known last month the studio was not preparing to do a public multiplayer beta, either.

Modern Warfare 2 ships on November 10 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Rumor: Microsoft to Buy EA?

Rumblings of a Electronic Arts takeover by Microsoft have driven Wall Street into a frenzy this morning.

Reuters is reporting "unsubstantiated talk" of a possible sale, causing shares to jump for both companies. Electronic Arts saw a jump of over 8% to $20.01, while Microsoft's shares increased 1.1 percent to $26.05

"There's talk that Microsoft might be interested in acquiring Electronic Arts. It's unsubstantiated chatter, but it's out there," said options strategist Frederic Ruffy.

Analyst Trip Chowdhry said talk of this sale is unjustified. "Our contacts just don't see Microsoft buying Electronic Arts, no synergies whatsoever, and also not Microsoft's corporate primary focus right now."

Electronic Arts and Microsoft have yet to issue any comments on this story.

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter told IGN a sale of this magnitude is highly unlikely.

"Their value as a one platform exclusive publisher is lower than their value on multi-platform. A media company would pay a lot more," he said. "Also, most licenses would terminate."

Deus Legend's Take: I really don't see this deal happening. Its all talk and will be a bad deal for both sides. There is also a rumor about EA wanting to buy THQ which will make a lot of sense. More on that here.

Beatles Rock Band review

Welcome back to this episode of Review with Blazenhawks. In this review I am doing Beatles Rock Band. As you know Beatles where a group of guys that started a band in London and then came over to the United States in 1967 and they were a huge hit. The Beatles are one of my favorite bands from the 1960’s and always have been, so when EA and MTV games came out with this version on 9/9/2009 I could not wait to play it.

The good things about the game is, when you start up the game the main video is cool and the graphics are great. I like how each time you play a song, the background changes depending on the song. The song choice is also awesome. It takes me back when I was a kid and having my parents listen to them. I like how as the years go by the Beatles get older you don’t see it that much. I like seeing the photos you unlock and the videos also. I also like that when you play as a band you can have more than one singer.

The down side of the game is the song list is short compared to other Rock Band games. When you play for about the first 15 songs you hear the girls screaming more than the music. I don't think it was a good idea. If I wanted to hear girls scream I would have gone outside. Also there are only 45 songs. That is way to short for the game to last, and the songs only last at the most 3 minutes. Plus it is just like all of the other music games which they are getting boring now.

I know this not a long review that’s because there is not much to the game it is really a relaxing game some thing to come back to. For this I am going to say that this is just a rent game once you beat it there is not point. For my rating I am going to give it

7.5/10

Tune in Friday night and I will be giving my review for Halo 3: ODST!

Halo 3: ODST Review

There are places where Halo 3: ODST could be improved, but when it comes right down to it, every Halo fan should buy this game. Even if you've lost interest in the franchise over the years or haven't ever given a Halo game a look, you'd do well to grab ODST and a few friends for some of the best multiplayer gaming around, especially with as wonderful an addition as Firefight. The campaign is a tad short, but well-crafted and exciting. Then there's a whole disc full of multiplayer maps, though you may already own the bulk of them.

Halo 3: ODST isn't a true sequel, but it is more than a standard expansion. If you're on the fence about buying it, drop your reservations and go snag a copy. If you love Halo, you owe it to yourself to pick this up as soon as you can.

IGN Ratings for Halo 3: ODST (X360)
Rating Description

9.0 Presentation
A tight story and well-crafted world make for one of Bungie's best efforts to date.
9.0 Graphics
The Halo 3 engine is starting to show its age, but the art team has done its best to make this one a looker.
10 Sound
Another Halo game, another fantastic soundtrack.
9.0 Gameplay
The campaign might be a tad short, but it sure is satisfying. The fresh approach to Halo is a winner.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
Firefight is awesome. It would be even better with matchmaking.

NFL Picks: Week 2

Welcome back to NFL Picks! It's sure great to be watching NFL football again. Week 1 brought some surprises to everyone, but there really are no surprises in the NFL. That's what makes this game great. Now, I'm sure you're all tired of the so called "experts" on ESPN and all the other media outlets. That's why I decided to start up this NFL picks on our website, so we can have our time to be experts.

That's enough for my intro. Just like last year, I'll start us off with the standout picks that I noticed when going through everyone's winners.
  • Finch865 and IronHorse1995 were the only ones to pick the Tennessee Titans for the Thursday Night kickoff game, and got it WRONG. xxInspirationxx tried to sneak one in on me by picking the Steelers, however he picked well after the conclusion of that game, so his pick won't count.
  • JRC865 picked the Miami Dolphins to take down the Atlanta Falcons, but was the only one to get that WRONG.
  • EVERYONE picked both New Orleans and Baltimore, and we all got those games CORRECT.
  • Stopable was the ONLY person to pick the St. Louis Rams over the Seahawks, as well being the only one to pick the Jaguars over the Colts, and got them both WRONG.
  • Jerhawk and IronHorse1995 were the ONLY experts to get the N.Y. Jets CORRECT over the Houston Texans.
  • Finch865 was the lone man to get the Buffalo Bills pick WRONG, barely. That was a great game.
  • Finch redeemed himself though by being the only one to get the Denver Broncos CORRECT over the Cincinnati Bengals. If it wasn't for Brandon Stokley, the rest of us would've got that one...
  • Jerhawk picked the Oakland Raiders over the Chargers, the only person to get that WRONG. That was also a great Monday Night game.
  • Jerhawk and Finch865 were the only brave souls to dare go against the Dallas Cowboys by picking the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but both got that WRONG.
  • BlazenHawks and Finch865 were the only two to chose the Carolina Panthers over the Eagles, but got that WRONG.
  • xxInspirationxx picked the Browns over the Minnesota Favres, but sadly was the only person to also get that WRONG.
Here are our Week 1 and overall results. Starting next week I will list these out seperately, but since this is the first week, they're together in the same list. As you can see, our scores are very close together. However as we progress throughout the season, we will seperate from each other.

T1.) KnightnBattle10 - 13
T1.) IronHorse1995 - 13
T3.) Jerhawk - 12
T3.) Deus Legend - 12
T3.) BlazenHawks - 12
T3.) JohnnyX77 - 12
T7.) Stopable - 11
T7.) JRC865 - 11
9.) xxInspirationxx - 10
10.) Finch865 - 8

Here are the Week 2 matchups. If you could please pick these in single spaced format in the order that I've listed them out, that would help me out tremendously:

Carolina @ Atlanta

Minnesota @ Detroit

Cincinnati @ Green Bay

Arizona @ Jacksonville

Oakland @ Kansas City

New England @ N.Y. Jets

New Orleans @ Philadelphia

Houston @ Tennessee

St. Louis @ Washington

Tampa Bay @ Buffalo

Seattle @ San Francisco

Pittsburgh @ Chicago

Cleveland @ Denver

Baltimore @ San Diego

N.Y. Giants @ Dallas (Sunday Night Football)

Indianapolis @ Miami (Monday Night)

Please have these picks in by Saturday Night at the latest if possible. I'll leave you guys with another NFL player comparison, brought to you by Deus Legend. This one included Houston Texans standout Wide Receiver Andre Johnson (left) and Atlanta Hawks Shooting Guard Joe Johnson (right).

Need for Speed Shift Review

Need for Speed Shift is a glorious return to greatness (and even excellence) for EA's seminal racing franchise. Slightly Mad Studios has delivered a driving experience that, while not completely accurate in terms of its simulation aspects, is practically dead-on in terms of what it's like to race around some of the world's best racing circuits. The career mode could (and should) have been a little better, but the act of driving is basically phenomenal.

IGN Ratings for Need for Speed Shift (X360)
Rating Description
out of 10
8.5 Presentation
Minimal but still heart-pumping.
8.5 Graphics
Generally stellar visuals with a tad bit of blurriness here and there from mip-mapping issues.
9.5 Sound
Brilliantly executed in pretty much every respect.
9.0 Gameplay
The driving experience is incredible, and the controls are practically perfect for this approach. But, the career mode is lacking.
7.5 Lasting Appeal
Lots of events to partake in, but the career mode won't keep you racing for hundreds of hours like some of the competition. The online is very fun, but minimal in options.

Dirt 2 Review

Welcome back everyone! I know I have not done a review in a long time, but that is because I have not gotten any of the new games until now. The game I am going to review is on Dirt 2. Dirt 2 is an off-road rally racing game if you have seen the x games every year that Travis Pastrana is really good at. The first Dirt released on June 19, 2007. That game was really boring and the online sucked and the graphics were ok. Dirt 2 was released on 9-8-09 but for some reason no store had the game until 9-9-09 in Oregon, Washington, or Atlanta for other people I have heard some store had it. Dirt 2 was made by Codemasters based in the UK.

When I got this game, the first thing I noticed about the game was the home screen in the game which is an RV. It is easy to view what game mode you are entering. I love how the menus are laid out like you are in that RV you’re self. The graphics in the game are amazing. In the RV you can chose from Online or Offline like most racing games in the past that’s all you get and it’s the same tracks over and over again, Well in this one you have different countries and different tracks for those countries. The range of cars you can buy is fun. The offline is fun you and change the difficulty. The only bad part about the offline is the cars they don’t give enough detail about the car. Each car just 3 states speed, acceleration, and drivability. You can customize the cars with different vinyls or toys hang from your minor. One customizable thing I like are the different horns that you can choose for your car.

The game play is the most fun I have ever had in a racing game. Offline is a little different than online. You have to buy the right cars you help you get Online, you can choose any car you want. Before each race offline, you can change the car brakes, how high you want the car to be, etc…

Now online is different you can either go play as a team or solo, now if you have more than your self in the party, then you have to play team. Online is fun. You wouldn't even care if you win or lose. The crashes in the game are so real. Say if I am driving behind you and I partly touch you’re back tire I spin out. I know you all have been reading a while and I don’t want to give everything away so my review for this game is going to be my best rating yet.

9/10

The reason why It’s 9/10 is because the game play is really fun and it's a must buy game. You do not get frustrated like the other games that have came out this year so far. The graphics was awesome, the animations for crashes are awesome. The reason it’s not a 10/10 is because the online matching making takes for every to get into a room, the crowed does not get scared if you crash at them, and some other little stuff. I hope this help everyone who was thinking about buying the game.

My review of Beatles Rockband will be out sometime next week.

Madden NFL 10 AFL Legacy Pack

The eight original AFL teams will be presented with their original uniforms and the 15 AFL Legacy Game matchups in the regular season can be presented in Legacy mode during the offline Franchise mode, Play Now and Superstar modes. The pack costs 560 ($7) on Xbox 360.

The Beatles: Rock Band Review

The Beatles: Rock Band isn't for everyone. Like, say, people who don't care about The Beatles. If that's you, then move along. For those who have a love or even just a fondness for the Fab Four, Harmonix has created a fantastic tribute. It won't teach you the full history of the world's most celebrated band nor give you even a quarter of their extraordinary catalogue of music, but it's still great. The Beatles went out of their way to do new things. So it's no surprise that a Beatles game doesn't feel at all like the traditional music title. It's special. What Beatles fan would want it any other way?

IGN Ratings for The Beatles: Rock Band (X360)
Rating Description
out of 10
9.0 Presentation
A unique experience to be sure, but it would have been perfect with a bit more history built into the Story mode.
9.0 Graphics
Stunning and imaginative. The venues are accurate, The Beatles are spot-on and the Dreamscapes are magical getaways from reality.
9.0 Sound
The Beatles have never sounded so good. The screams of crazed fans gives a sense of what it was like to play Shea Stadium in the '60s.
9.0 Gameplay
The same great Rock Band style, but with the addition of vocal harmonies. Rock Band aficionados may find some of it too easy.
8.0 Lasting Appeal
Its biggest flaw is the small library. Though you get 45 great songs, it's still only 45 songs -- many of which are under three-minutes long.
9.0

BlazenHawks
Stopable

JRC865

7.) Finch865 - 85

This year I'm going to start us off with a bit of a bang. This week alone has the most point opportunities out of any other week we're going to do all season. Not only will we pick our Week 1 games, I would also like you to pick who you think will win each division. At the end of the season if you're still in the NFL Picks, you will receive 5 bonus points for every divisional winner that you managed to pick correctly. That's not all! We will also be making our Superbowl winner predictions this week. You have a 1 out of 32 chance of getting this one correct. But if you do somehow pick the Superbowl winner, you will receive 10 bonus points at the end of this season. These are game changers people!

First things first though. Here are our Week 1 matchups. For those of you new to the NFL Picks, just simply click the comments button on the upper right hand corner of this post. If you don't have a Google ID or YouTube account name, you can leave yourself as anonymous, but please leave your gamertag within your post so I know who you are. Also, please pick each game in the order that I provide them. Either just say the team name, city name, or something so that I can tell who you picked for the game.

Tennessee @ Pittsburgh (Thursday Night Kickoff Special)

Miami @ Atlanta

Kansas City @ Baltimore

Philadelphia @ Carolina

Denver @ Cincinnati

Minnesota @ Cleveland

N.Y. Jets @ Houston

Jacksonville @ Indianapolis

Detroit @ New Orleans

Dallas @ Tampa Bay

San Francisco @ Arizona

Washington @ N.Y. Giants

St. Louis @ Seattle

Chicago @ Green Bay (Sunday Night Football)

Buffalo @ New England (Monday Night Part 1)

San Diego @ Oakland (Monday Night Sleeper, Part 2)

After you've made your picks for these games, please name your division winners. These will be worth 5 points per division if you get them right at the end of the regular season.

NFC West: Seattle, San Francisco, Arizona, St. Louis

NFC North: Chicago, Detroit, Green Bay, Minnesota

NFC East: Dallas, Philadelphia, N.Y. Giants, Washington

NFC South: Atlanta, Carolina, Tampa Bay, New Orleans

AFC West: Oakland, Denver, Kansas City, San Diego

AFC North: Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Cleveland

AFC East: N.Y. Jets, Miami, New England, Buffalo

AFC South: Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Houston, Tennessee

And finally, after you label your division winners, please give me your Superbowl XIV champion, worth 10 points at the end of our picks if you get it right.

We will also start doing the Upset Special/ 2 Point Conversions in Week 10, when we will make our second and final Superbowl pick. But that's not for a long time.
Just like last year, I will try to make some face comparisons between NFL players and other people. Last year we had Joe Flacco and Zachary Quinto (Sylar from Heroes, Spock from the new Star Trek), Grady Jackson and Big Daddy V (WWE), Brady Quinn and Jerhawk (myself), and I think a few others. What do you guys think of this one?

Seahawks rookie Wide Receiver Deon Butler and Comedian Dave Chappelle.

Please have your picks in before the Kickoff of the Steelers/Titans game on September 10th. Thank you.

Dirt 2 Review

Dirt 2 is prettier than its predecessor, has more varied tracks and a functional multiplayer offering. What it doesn’t have is a focus on pure time-trial rally races, which is really what I expect from a rally game. The other disciplines are fun to dabble in, but I’m old school and want a bit more tradition from a racing game. Dirt 2 is a solid racing game with some really fun events and a slick menu system, but it could use a little less of the arcade action and a bit more of the sim. I think the vast majority of racing fans are going to love what Dirt 2 has to offer, but there will be a few who long for the days when a hill climb was considered the ultimate racing experience.

IGN Ratings for Dirt 2 (X360)

Rating Description
out of 10
9.0 Presentation
The interface is hot and nearly as impressive as the original Dirt.
9.0 Graphics
Beautiful scenery, some good-looking cars and full damage modeling. The framerate is almost always perfect.
7.5 Sound
The cars sound just fine, but the music is average and the other drivers offer repetitive and boring quips during races.
8.5 Gameplay
A solid racing game, but the trucks and buggy racing get a bit too much attention.
8.0 Lasting Appeal
The career mode is pretty short and can be beaten within 10 hours, though it will take longer to place first in all 100 events. Multiplayer is good fun.
8.4

Guitar Hero 5 Review

There have been a lot of Guitar Hero games over the past few years. And there will be more yet before this year comes to a close. It's easy to get lost in the flood. But if you're going to grab one, Guitar Hero 5 is a good choice. The accessibility, streamlined presentation, solid note charts, and welcome gameplay improvements make this the best Guitar Hero game in recent memory.

IGN Ratings for Guitar Hero 5 (X360)

Rating Description
out of 10
9.0 Presentation
Neversoft stripped away a layer of annoyance in just about every area of the game.
8.0 Graphics
The animations are starting to show some life even if the art style still leaves room for improvement.
8.5 Sound
Better sound samples and good mixing. The track list is all over the place.
9.0 Gameplay
A few tweaks to the band play improve on the winning formula. Rock on.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
Challenges and new modes will keep you rocking. Importing tracks gives it even more value.
8.9
