Around the Hawk: Jerhawk's Best Games of E3 2010

Power Gig: Rise of the Six String is the kind of game I've been imagining for awhile, but never thought it would be created. Until now.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier blew me away with this amazing gameplay demonstration at E3 Live.
Check out the rest of our thoughts on E3 2010 a few posts down, and post your own thoughts to this year's event. Happy gaming!

XBLN Staff E3 Thoughts

Our staff will be blogging their thoughts on this years here. These are just random thoughts and observations for games on all systems not just Xbox.

Deus Legend
- The Kinect seems like an okay but I believe the Wii will still be the motion king. Also, the PS Move doesn't seem too bad. Think of that a Wii with PS3 games and graphics. If you're going to get a motion controller, I would suggest you either get the PS Move or a Wii. Skip the Kinect, it will not be worth the money. PS Move will be $49.99 for the wand and another $29.99 for the navigation controller. Also a bundle with the eyetoy and a game called Sports Champions will retail for $99. And a PS3 bundle with the fore mentioned for $399.

-Another note about the Kinect, Gamestop released some prices of the games announced for Kinect all for $59.99. Also note that the Kinect will not be bundled with any games at the moment(We will update you one this).

-It was noted by Sony that in order to play 3D PS3 games, you WILL need a 3D TV. The main reason being if that 3D TV's require HDMI 1.4. Current LCD's and Plasmas have HDMI 1.2 and 1.3. And also LCD tvs do not have high enough refresh rates for 3D to work correctly. So 3D movies without a 3D tv will not be preferable.

-Gears of War 3 is shaping up into a nice game. There is a new mode called Beast Mode. Beast mode is an arena-style battle where you try and kill off waves of enemies. The catch? You play as the Locust, killing COGs. You can even play as a Berserker or a Ticker and everything in between.

-Nintendo 3DS seems like an interesting idea but I'm sure this will not be true 3D and only depth perception. But some cool titles are in the works for the 3DS like Star Fox, Mario Kart, Splinter Cell, and Assassins Creed.

-Nintendo is also releasing a new Donkey Kong Country, which were made famous on the Super Nintendo. This game will be developed by Retro(Makers of the Metroid games). Also expected from Nintendo, was news of Kirby, and Zelda.

-Medal of Honor has a lot of promise. Think of the multiplayer as Battlefield mixed with CoD. I will have more thoughts on the MoH multiplayer tomorrow. I will have access to the Beta tomorrow.

-Looks like Sony has finally gone down the path of Xbox Live by announcing their Playstation Network paid subscriptions. They will have a year for $49.99 and three months for $17. They will also have a three month trial for this. This new PS Plus will include special access to betas, full game demos and more.

-I am overall disappointed with the EA Sports portion of the EA presser. The MMA Live Broadcast was cool but I'm sure this will make its way to other EA Sports games in the future if this turns out cool. EA is still trying to sell us on the Madden gameflow system but I am still not impressed with it or will I use it. The highpoint of the EA Presser was the Medal of Honor multiplayer showing. This game looks very promising.

-Halo Reach campaign looks interesting but I am afraid from playing the Beta, the multiplayer will disappoint.

-Sony showed their annual Gran Turismo 5 video package for like the 4th year in a row, maybe it will come this year for sure...who knows.(Currently coming November 2nd)

-Ubisofts press conference was also pretty disappointing, with the exception of Assassins Creed Brother and Ghost Recon. Speaking of Ghost Recon, I was very pleased with what I saw with it. It seems like Advanced Warfighter style with better graphics and set more in the future. I'm interested to know if there will be co-op for the game and how the multiplayer will go. Multiplayer beta for GR should be out in July and we'll update you then.

-Activision has unveiled yet another Tony Hawk game called TH Shred. It will be a cell shaded game and will make use of the skateboard peripheral. I wonder when Activision will stop with these games and see that EA's Skate franchise is much better.

-Can't wait to see how this Power Gig: Rise of the 6th String game will play. It will incorporate a real guitar that you can hook up to an amp and everything.

-Still awaiting news on Mass Effect 3. I'm sure some will pop up by the end of the week.

-A new Time Crisis game will be coming for the PS Move. I've played Time Crisis 4 on the PS3 and it was pretty cool with the gun and all. I suppose this game will use the move controller instead.

-It's great to see Twisted Metal return to PS. I remember playing that on the PS1 back in the good days.

Jerhawk's Thought's

-The most promising game that I got out of E3 2010 was Power Gig: Rise of the Six String. I'm a fairly lazy person, so I didn't want to learn how to play a guitar when I was younger using lesson videos or anything like that. This game would be like a learning experience/fun video game. I can't wait for this one.

-Madden '11 still looks disappointing. I don't understand why the EA Sports staff insists on amping up this gameflow feature as the main improvement in the game. If this was the biggest improvement they made to this years game, then that's sad. I really hope EA gets a different developmental team for Madden next year, or that NFL license expires.

-Ghost Recon: Future Soldier was another game that shows excellent potential. This game scored big for me.

Xbox Slim Official

Microsoft announced the new Xbox 360 Elite. It'll launch TODAY priced for $299, while the old Elite will remain at $249 and the Arcade will drop to $149. The new console will have an integrated 802.11n WiFi and 250GB of storage. There's also an intriguing new port on the back that looks like an HTC-style ExtUSB port -- we're guessing it's related to Kinect in some way -- and it also seems like the power supply has moved inside the case. New Xbox 360 units are shipping to retailers now, with availability expected later this week

Madden NFL 11 Co-op

Co-op can be done with 3v3, 2v1, or any combo you can think of. There will be a new camera system as well. When playing on defense, the camera will be the same as we all are used to. The QB's and LB's call the plays for both sides. A team captain can be selected before the game and they call time-outs and can change the depth chart and call challenges. Co-op looks promising this year. We'll see...

Top 10 Most Anticipated Games of E3 2010

Michael Jordan Signed for NBA 2K11

Michael Jordan might be retired, but he’s still the most powerful force in the basketball marketing world. He has proved that in the shoe business and now he’ll get his chance on a video game cover.

Last week Espn rumored that they might make Jordan the cover but today CNBC confirmed that.

“We’ve made a lot of progress over the past 10 years, but we know we have the best NBA video game ever made here,” Argent said. “So we thought to ourselves how can we embody that and there was only one person on that list who we wanted to have and that was Michael Jordan. Actually getting this done is the most ridiculous win of all-time.”

Michale Jordan said something about being one the cover.

“It’s an honor to be featured on the cover of NBA 2K11,” Jordan said, in a statement. “I have no doubt that NBA 2K11 will be a big hit with gamers and basketball fans alike. I’m looking forward to getting back out on the court, virtually.”

NBA Elite 11 News

EA is going to rebrand the old NBA Live Franchise with NBA Elite. Currently only in development for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and the new physics system means that players can now move around the court independently without being tied to another player. There's also going to be a new skill-driven shooting system that will require "accurate user input" and have its success tied into player orientation on the court -- no longer will there be "random dice rolls" to determine successful shooting. Finally, EA details a new "Hands-On" control scheme, which promises 1:1 movement, doing away with those long, annoying animations of the past.

“NBA ELITE 11 will give gamers the same skill set that a pro basketball player has at his disposal,” said David Littman, Creative Director, NBA ELITE 11. “This is the first basketball simulation videogame where you are controlling every movement, dribble move, shot, dunk, lay-up, steal and block in real time with one-to-one control. You’re no longer going to push a button and watch the computer generate a long animation sequence. It is like being on a basketball court with an amazing set of skills. This is going to change what people have come to expect from a basketball simulation videogame.”
